One of my best experiences on the Internet was years ago when I was introduced to Netvibes. This is a fantastic website that allows me to have my own personalized homepage. It lets me put together my favorite feeds, podcasts, blogs, websites, social networks, e-mail, calendar, flickr photos and, all in just one place.
At personal level, I subscribe to RSS feeds to keep up-to-date with what's happening around the world. For Australian news I subscribe to the ABC, for world news to the BBC and to a couple of South American newspapers for my hometown news. My latest subscription being to the OPAL training.
My favorite podcasts are all on the ABC: the Book Show, All in the Mind and The Health Report
I was well impressed when I read in a library journal that libraries are using RSS feeds to get exposure of their collections. Clients subscribe to these feeds to be informed when new additions are received on their subject or area of interest.
As a library marketing tool, clients can subscribe to get feeds of our e-newsletter, programs and events.
I feel that we have to keep up with technology if we want to maintain our clients and attract younger generations. Otherwise, we'll be potential material for the archives ;-)
